Marie Duffau Hors d'Age Bas-Armagnac comes from the Delord family, fourth-generation Armagnac producers in Lannepax in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac, the finest sub-region of Gascony's brandy country. Marie Duffau was the family matriarch, and the label carries her name on the Delord house's export range. Hors d'Age means the youngest brandy in the blend is at least ten years old; this one carries a minimum age of twelve years and is bottled at 40% ABV.Expect rich toffee, aged oak, pitted plum and raisin on the nose and palate, with an elegant rancio from the long aging and a long, rounded finish. Armagnac is single-distilled in a column still, which gives it more rustic depth than cognac, and this one is a superb after-dinner sipper. This 750ml bottle is one of the best values in aged French brandy.
